Would I recommend this PI? Absolutely not. I feel sorry for all the people that ever worked with him. He mistakes his personal preferences for academic standards, dismisses evidence he dislikes, and uses his position to psychologically control students. Do not join this group. No paper is worth this.
## Advisor Style & Mentorship He is a very sarcastic person and only harsh with PhD students from China in his group. He always scolds students, even using dirty words. Several talented students quit from his group because of his horrible attitude. Now that he had gotten tenure, he said he couldn't swear, but couldn't help it. Fortunately, he was polite to those who had nothing to do with him and his superiors
## Expectations for PhD Students High a few years ago, unknown for now (after tenure).
## Funding & Support Scholarships are standard in Singapore. But he recently has a scholarship from FRS, a project with ETHZ, which is really bad because you have to attend many useless meetings, although you don't have to be a TA. What is more, this scholarship makes changing supervisor impossible.
## Research Because he always tries to trick better students (compared with overall NUS PhD students) into coming here, the quality of the students in the group is high. Thus, they all work hard, but in this environment, most of them only get half the result with twice the effort.
## Lab Culture Objectively speaking, he is particularly good at reliability analysis. But he's been trying to move in OR (Operation Research) lately, and he's the new kid on the block. He won't give you much guidance on that, and you'll have to keep hearing him constantly scolding.
## Additional Information Don't come. If you are interested in OR, NUS IORA is a much better choice.

Yes, I recommend this PI.
老实说，这个老师的个人科研能力是的确还行。
这个老师相对也比较接地气，不会太像北美学者一样“刚直“”死板”。
唯一让人刻骨铭心的是，这个老师有点“太过”强势，或者借用别人的话说就是“对自己PhD学生的控制欲有点太强”，然后很多时候也会直接辱骂PhD学生，是的，直接辱骂（听人说有时候会骂的很难听、很侮辱人格），不会表达出尊重和理解。
但他对其他普通学生（比如他只是代课的课程学生）还是比较热心和宽容的。他的控制欲仅限对于自己所带的PhD学生。
要是能真心和善良地对待自己的PhD学生，应该就会很不错的一位老师。
