The problem with this website is that if an advisor sees this, it isn't too hard to figure out who wrote it from the advisor's perspective. I want to write many more details, but it could easily expose all his students to harm.

I will speak generally about Ghassan:

    * He doesn't know much about Machine Learning, but micro manages students as if he does. This reduces the quality of most papers in the lab unless you are a strong enough person not to listen to him and defend yourself.
    * He threatens students in a variety of ways constantly.
    * Funding cut threats are very normal. He even threatens to cut funding to students that are the best in his lab. Look at the top publications on his google scholar by citation count. He cut funding to both of those students because they wanted to publish good research in areas that were interesting to them instead of listening to his micro managing. He doesn't want you to be successful. He wants you to just follow what he says.
    * He constantly talks about how the ML community is full of arrogant people and how CV research is bad. However, all of his most cited papers are computer vision papers and all of his funding is from people who expect some computer vision expertise. However, if a student brings up an idea that seems related to CV he again threatens funding. New PhD students come in excited to do CV research only to get criticized by him when they bring up a CV related idea.
    * Everyone in the lab is generally nice to each other, but they are all afraid of him. They spend a lot of time trying to interpret is mood swings.
    * He is emotionally unstable and students spend a lot of time thinking about whether they are meeting the happy or angry ghassan and oftentimes wondering what happened to cause the angry ghassan.

No, I don't recommend this PI.
